Red’s on 4th
Calgary’s original Red’s Diner is going on its tenth year and still proving to be one of the most popular breakfast and lunch spots on Calgary’s trendy 4th street dining corridor. Their recently updated menu reflects new and classic favourites, all made from scratch adapting to the city’s voracious appetite for comfort food and homestyle meals. Their new cocktail menu features inventive Mimosas, cocktails, boozy milkshakes and spiked coffees that are so good one is not enough!
So often we have wished our iced coffee was spiked with booze, so we tried the Cowtown Coffee. Iced espresso, bourbon, cream, simple syrup and fresh mint make this an eye opener you won’t forget.
Scanning for new favourites, we settled on the Huevos Rancheros, a hearty dish. Served in a tortilla bowl, loaded with chorizo sausage, goat cheese, black beans, green onions, and jalapeños over Red’s hash browns. Topped with two eggs your way, fresh avocado, homemade salsa, and fresh cilantro.
The French Toast is done right all day long. Italian white is thoroughly soaked, grilled up light and fluffy and topped with whipped butter, maple syrup and icing sugar. We added the field berry compote for a deliciously sweet finish.
The new burger bar has loads of choices. We opted for the Brie Bacon Jam Burger. A huge 8 oz sirloin patty topped with creamy Brie, Applewood bacon jam and all the usual suspects served on a Brioche bun.
In our opinion they still offer the best Reuben in town. A large portion of Montreal smoked meat, Swiss cheese and sauerkraut is grilled between slices of fresh marble Rye and sided with Red’s famous house cut fries.
The cozy interior of warm wood and brick, bottomless cups of coffee and staff that make you feel like you’re welcome to stay and chat and enjoy your time make this diner a must visit for all day breakfast, brunch or lunch any day of the week.
